New Celestron Microscopes Help Teachers and Students Explore the Microscopic World

Torrance, CA (March 12, 2015) – With schools across the nation increasingly focused on promoting STEM initiatives, Celestron is pleased to announce several new products that will assist teachers in developing the next generation of scientists. As the world’s largest telescope manufacturer, Celestron recognizes the importance of science in the classroom and is rapidly expanding its microscope offerings to make the latest technology accessible to more teachers and school districts.

Announced in January 2015, the new Celestron Labs family of microscopes features a variety of professional-quality biological microscopes with all-glass objectives. Created with students in mind, this affordable line includes three traditional microscopes and four with binocular heads for more comfortable viewing. All Celestron Labs microscopes include either prepared slides or 3D bug specimens to get students observing right away, plus other accessories.

Celestron is also adding two new digital microscopes to its lineup. FlipView is a handheld microscope with up to 120x magnification and a compact design perfect for taking into the field or on nature walks. Students view specimens on the flip-out 3.5-inch LCD screen and can save 5 megapixel images and video directly to a MicroUSB memory card. FlipView begins shipping in spring 2015.

For more magnification, the MicroSpin digital microscope allows up to 600x magnification thanks to its unique design. Six objectives sit on a rotating wheel; students turn the wheel to adjust magnification. MicroSpin connects to Mac or Windows-based PCs via USB, allowing students to view specimens on the monitor. MicroSpin also begins shipping this spring.

Teachers looking to integrate digital microscopes into their life science classes will love Celestron’s new microscope and curriculum bundles. Designed in conjunction with a leading science educator, the two bundles are guaranteed to comply with Next Generation Science Standards for grades 6-8. With the first bundle, students gather cell samples, prepare slides and investigate them with Celestron’s bestselling LCD Digital Microscope II. The second bundle gets students outside, exploring plant adaptations and documenting their findings with the popular and easy-to-use Micro Fi WiFi Microscope.

The curriculum bundles and Celestron Labs microscopes are available now online or from select Celestron dealers. Some dealers offer discounts for educators.

To further support science education, Celestron is proud to attend the National Science Teachers’ Association national conference being held March 12-15, 2015, in Chicago. Teachers are encouraged to visit Celestron at booth #1656 and attend three free workshops hosted by Celestron: “Digital Microscopes 101,” “Teaching Astronomy During the Day & Beyond the Classroom,” and “Stretch Your Legs for Science,” a birding walk with Celestron binoculars.
