I've never owned or used a telescope, until I bought this used. The first time I used it, I observed the moon half full and sighted in on Saturn, which I was able to see the rings. I used only the eyepieces that came with the scope. Best money I've spent in a long time! I'm hooked. Hopefully I can get the right filter in time for Venus' transit. If anyone has issues with focusing or sighting, then they probably did not read the manual, or should get some help. It's very simple and manually tracking and looking for objects is much more fun than just hitting a button! Comparable to open water fishing, or shooting fish in a barrel. (Posted on 5/30/12)
I am pretty much a complete novice when it comes to using a telescope for star gazing. Following the instructions I was able to easily put the scope together. For the price it seems well built and after 5 months of use I've had no problems with it. I definitely prefer viewing with the weaker lens as it keeps everything nice an clear. Jumping up to the 30x lens piece gets you closer, but objects become blurry. One downside is the viewfinder, which I pretty much find useless. That being said I have been able to find and view lots of celestial delights like the Orion nebula and Saturn. Definitely a good first telescope to begin with. (Posted on 5/9/12)
I think this type of finder scope is some what a giving me problem, specially I'm near-sighted and using corrective glass. Using my glass the red dot is blurred but removing my glass the red dot is clear but the background star now became blurred and vice-versa. Which way it didn't complement each other.
But I have tried the finderscope that was used for Nexstar SLT 130 is better. I don't know if Celestron made this testing before they produced this.
But all in all this telescope is good in performance and recommended for amateur astronomy.
