I am very pleased with my C8 SCT with CG5-GT mount. The mount is solid and doesn't feel cheap at all, even though the motor covers are plastic. It feels substantial, like it can take some serious use. It's much quieter than I thought it would be, even when slewing at maximum speed. Setup is a breeze. Just make sure you balance it correctly. It seems sensitive to the balance not being at least close to accurate. But this is something you should do anyhow.Rate This Product
The Alignment routine is super easy to do, and you have many choices for alignment stars in case what it suggests is not visible (in my front yard, I cannot see the south sky). Once 2-star aligned with at least a couple of calibration stars, the goto is quick and accurate. And the All-Star Polar Alignment routine is like magic from heaven. Works very well and allowed me to reach un-guided exposures of a 60-90 seconds easily.
The telescope tube itself is also very well made, and feels substantial. It's not so heavy that it's cumbersome, but beefy enough to feel tough and ready to work. The optics came well collimated as well.
My only nits with this setup are the cheap finderscope and somewhat light tripod. I dealt with the finderscope, which you get used to. But the tripod, I always had to add some weight to the tray to get it to feel more solid. Fairly minor nits on an otherwise fantastic combo. Solid tripod, overall easy to carry to site and assemble. With some practice, handle control easy of use. Optically very good, able to see many details on Mars, Jupiter or Saturn.Rate This Product
