I bought this scope to upgrade from my Nexstar 6SE. The mount is great- after 2 alignment starts and 2 calibration stars, it'll put any object within the central 20% of the fov of my DSLR when attached at prime focus. The optics are good quality, and it performs nicely. Only 2 things that might become a problem: first, the focuser barrel is neither 2" nor 1.25", with both 1.25" and 2" adapters needed.In order to correct for coma, I got a Baader MPCC, thinking this would be a quick fix. Unfortunately, the 2" adapter needed to attach the MPCC extends the DSLR by 1 1/2 inch from where it is when the DSLR is noramlly attached to the t-threads on the 1.25" adapter. This means there is not enough in-focus for the DSLR/ MPCC combo to come to focus. I solved this my buying an Orion 2" crayford. Second, the counterweight shaft is a bit too short. Wih the included 3 11 lb counterweights, the scope balances fine. But anyone wanting to mount anything as large as or larger than an 80mm guidescope/guider to the tube rings might find that that weights can't travel far enough to completely balance the setup. One option is to remove the finderscope. This sheds about a pound. Generally a good scope, I've gotten spectacular images with it. Recommended. (Posted on 6/15/12)Rate This Product
