- Great telescope for beginners and all of the family Review by persseas

This telescope is great for beginners and for all the family. We were amazed with its optical power, especially considering its low price. Up to now, we had some great summer evenings observing the sky, even if we live in a very light polluted city like Athens (Greek Isles). @sharpysharp: I took the scope off the mount and held the nut underneath and just turned the mount to tighten and made the mount sturdy.Rate This Product
@jdubble: for the laser dot finder, align it during the day on an object.

This is the perfect scope for a beginner/amateur that has previously shown interest in astronomy. This scope is great because of the accessories you can get for it. You can really upgrade it to vastly improve its abilities. For the price, it cant be beat. I couldnt be happier with this scope. This was a gift to my family this Christmas and we have already had a blast the few nights we have taken it out. How great it was to point it at a crescent moon and see such great detail, then turn it to Jupiter and quickly spot the moons. The software that comes with it is another great value. It was neat to show the kids how the moons of Jupiter should look and then go back out and see them in exactly that pattern.Rate This Product
My recommendation is to get the finder setup first thing. It has been a long time since i have played with telescopes and I tell you this devices makes it so much easier. The more time you take to get it centered, the better your experience will be.
Overall, this is a great value for the price. You may not see everything out there will this telescope, but you will be pleased with the quality. (Posted on 1/4/12) - Great Telescope Review by Jeff

This is the best telescope for the money. I got it as an Xmas present and once you get the laser aligned and take care of all the little things, this is an outstanding telescope. i have viewed a few planets as well as, more often, the moon. It comes with 3 eyepieces (20mm, 10mm, and 4mm) and a barlow lens that triples (3x) the magnifying power of each eyepiece. This telescope is just magnificent. Celestron is a great brand. Am really impressed with the quality and function of this telescope.Rate This Product
My wife and I bought it for my grandson for Christmas.
It's a complete package.
Tonight I started using my wifes digital camera to take pictures through the eyepiece and some of the pictures came out phenomenal, that is for using a camera through the eyepiece.
For myself I think I am going to buy the same model scope but with the german equatorial. (Posted on 12/29/11) - Cool scope Review by Byron Cooksey

Received this scope as a Christmas gift and used it that very night. All I can say is "wow"! I pointed it at a very bright star and saw that it wasn't a star but a ball with lines going through it with four little stars around it. My cousin told me it was the planet jupiter. I think i'm gonna enjoy using this scope very much. Thanks Celestron! (Posted on 12/28/11)Rate This Product - Great telescope Review by Guitgrl

Definate recommend for first time users or even as a back up. Easy to set up. Saw Saturn's rings using 4mm eyepiece! The software that comes with it is fun too. Great scope! (Posted on 12/27/11)Rate This Product - Perfect for the beginner Review by sharpysharp

Just purchased this telescope for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas... Literally just finished putting it together as a Santa Clause gift... Overall the construction seems to be very well put together with one minor problem on ours... The horizontal knob does nothing if tightened all the way down... Not sure if it is a problem within the mount or what but it just doesn't do anything... Where the swivel mount joins the rest of the mount it is wobbly and not sturdy... Minus that one problem it will be perfect for my daughter to begin a love of science... I received my very first telescope for Christmas (Santa?) when I was about her age and have loved stargazing ever since... I've always wanted a telescope, but I've always assumed that a large, expensive setup was necessary to really see anything. I found this scope at Walmart for an outrageous low price, so I got it, again, not expecting much. It was easy to assemble and despite my lack of knowledge on using a telescope, Jupiter was my first target and easy to find. WOW. I caught glimpses of slight detail of Jupiter and seeing the Galilean moons was absolutely stunning. I have since viewed the Pleiades and the Great Orion Nebula, also stunning to see for the first time. For a modest investment, you can get "WOW!" views of the heavens.Rate This Product
On the down side, I still have not been able to set the red dot finder to accurately guide me to a target--especially when using higher magnification eye pieces or trying locating smaller, fainter objects. The scope wobbles on the mount when trying to focus which is annoying at best and frustrating at worst. And if you want to look straight up in the sky, be prepared to crawl around on the ground to look through the finderscope and to sit on the ground to view. Or set up on a sturdy table. Still, for the money, these issues are nothing to complain about. And once you've gotten a taste of the breathtaking views right outside your door, you won't think twice about the occasional wobbly image or kneeling on the cold winter ground. I can't wait to get back outside!
