LOS ANGELES (DECEMBER 12, 2006) – The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Los Angeles partnered with Saputo Cheese USA to fulfill the wish of 6-year-old aspiring space explorer Abel Chen, who is currently battling leukemia, as he lived out his dream when he visited Cape Canaveral to view a shuttle launch and hug an astronaut. Having recently returned from a weeklong trip to the Kennedy Center in Florida, Abel received a hero’s welcome this evening as he was arrived at The Grove’s Town Square to give a big hug to Columbia Astronaut C. The Premiere Adventure Magazine honors portable Celestial Exploration Device For Its Innovation, Utility, Functionality, Value And Design
TORRANCE, CA – (November 15, 2006) – Celestron’s SkyScout personal planetarium has been named “Best of Adventure Gear” by National Geographic Adventure’s fourth annual year-end “Best of Adventure” gear awards. Judged to be a leader in innovation, utility, functionality, value and design by National Geographic Adventurer Magazine and its 45-member advisory board, the innovative handheld GPS stargazing device was awarded at a gala event held at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday November 14, 2006. Griffith Observatory officially re-opened its doors on November 2, 2006. Celestron was honored to be a part of the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Celestron donated two custom-built Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tubes to the Griffith Observatory. The observatory has piggyback mounted the 8” and 9.25” telescopes to Griffith’s 12” Zeiss telescope to provide live images of targeted objects for the general public to view on the observatory’s ground floor.
