CGE PRO Computerized Telescopes

Overview

Celestron's newest line of observatory class German equatorial telescopes

The CGE Pro computerized series is Celestron's newest line of observatory class German equatorial telescopes. Offered with 9.25", 11" and 14" aperture Schmidt Cassegrain optical tubes, they all come mounted on the new state of the art CGE Pro GoTo mount.

The German Equatorial mount has long been the favored choice of astronomy buffs and astrophotographers because of its stability and portability. More stable because the center of gravity is directly over the center of its base, more portable because it can be broken down into smaller component parts for easy storage and transportation.

For astrophotography, the German Equatorial mount offers easier balancing, unlimited space at the rear of the telescope tube to mount a camera, and whole sky access. Now you can enjoy all of the NexStar software and database features with the extra stability and portability of a German Equatorial mount.

Venus -- 25 May 2010

Venus -- 25 May 2010

A semi false-color image of Venus taken in IR-G-B. The IR channel is used to increase cloud detail, while limiting the image to features that can be seen in the visible spectrum. The use of IR for red gives the image the reddish tone, whereas Venus in true visible light would be a more pale color with much less contrast in the cloud features.

The image was taken about an hour before sunset against a nearly fully illuminated sky background using a long focal length (about 16m) to increase contrast. Seeing was very good at the time (7-8/10) while transparency was good, but variable.

Storms on Saturn

Storms on Saturn

Saturn in good seeing with its rings tilted at their minimum for the next 14 years at just 1.7 degrees. Also, a storm is visible as an elongated white spot on the lower right of the globe.

Jupiter with GRS and Oval BA

Jupiter with GRS and Oval BA

Here is Jupiter from this past weekend. Shown are the Great Red Spot (GRS) and "Red Spot, Jr." (Oval BA). The area around Oval BA is in transition and has shown tremendous activity as a number of its trailing, companion ovals have merged with it over the past weeks.

Additional images from this Jupiter opposition are on my site at Exosky.net
