I did a one-star or solar alignment and my scope won’t find other objects
Answer Your NexStar scope has several different SkyAlign procedures to choose from. In general, the number, positive ID and wide spacing of objects improves a SkyAlign and any subsequent GOTOs and tracking. Thus, the most accurate procedures are SkyAlign (3 widely spaced stars you know) and Two-Star Align.

The least accurate alignments use only one object and or one that is hard to center – One-Star, Sun and Moon alignments. Unlike for multiple object alignments, the scope simply accepts your input and it’s not cross-checked with any relative distances on the sky. These alignments work best for a small region of the sky right around the aligned object.

When you ask your scope to find a star or planet in another area of the sky, it’s most likely outside the region where the one-object alignment is accurate.

T
he cure for this is to press UNDO repeatedly to get to the top level and choose another alignment method using more objects. Of course, during daytime, alignment on the sun may be your only option.
