Leveling your NexStar SE telescope mount
Answer For the best use of your telescope, level your tripod before observations begin.

This is especially important for your NexStar SE mount because it affects the scope’s GOTO accuracy.

First, set up on a relatively flat and level site. Second, check the inclination of the tripod by using a level on a flat surface on the tripod leg tops. The SE tripod-mounts have no built-in level, but you can get an inexpensive bubble level at most hardware stores to help with this. Tape it to the top center of the battery compartment cover. Adjust the length of the tripod legs by unlocking and shortening or lengthening them as needed until the bubble is centered in the level.

NOTE: When turning the tripod leg locking bolts, don't overtighten them as this may damage the plastic and brass locking fixture on the legs.
