My SkyScout is taking a long time and or doesn’t link to GPS. What can I do?
Answer

The SkyScout gets a GPS update every few minutes, so it should link with GPS in that time. If it doesn't, try these tips for successful linking.

First, hold the SkyScout upright, with the TARGET button facing upward.  Be sure you have new batteries with the battery shields installed.  Turn on the SkyScout and the unit’s GPS will attempt to link to the satellites.  If the GPS times out, please press SELECT to continue.  If the GPS fails a second time, press the GPS button under the LCD display.  A graph should appear in the LCD display showing the strength of the GPS signal it is receiving.  Please note that the unit must link with three GPS satellites in order to triangulate your position.

If you see signals, but the signals appear weak, try moving around to a new location until the signal becomes stronger.  Sometimes moving 5 - 10 feet can make a difference.  Be aware that heavy clouds or weather can affect GPS signals, as can deep valleys and urban skyscrapers. You may not be able to link in these types of conditions and surroundings.

If you don't see any signals at all or if you have weak signals that don’t connect, there might be a problem with the GPS receiver.  Contact Celestron factory service for repair of your SkyScout.
