Does the stated payload weight of my Celestron mount include the counterweights?
Answer No. The payload weight does not include the counterweights.

The payload weight is defined by Celestron’s engineering department as the load that is carried by the mount’s dovetail clamp.

For example, a CGE Pro 1400 has a 47-lb optical tube assembly. This weight is carried by the clamp. The mount carries this weight plus 3 22-lb counterweights for a total load of 113 lbs.

However, a CGE Pro mount has a payload capacity of 90 lbs. So it still has capacity for 43 lbs more accessories, guidescopes, focusers, cameras etc.
