Can I change the position of my CGEM equatorial head on the tripod?
Answer Yes you can. You might want to do this to more conveniently position the legs of the tripod with respect to the counterweight or the counterweight with respect to other equipment you are using.

First, take the equatorial mount head off the tripod, exposing the top of the tripod. Do this by removing the accessory tray and unscrewing the accessory tray support shaft.  You will see the square-shaped azimuth adjustment post. Unthread the post from its current position in line with the single tripod leg and move it to the threaded hole 180 degrees away located between the tripod legs. Reassemble the head to the tripod.

Caution: this rotation of the head on the tripod will shift the scope’s center of gravity, possibly increasing the likelihood of toppling the mount. Tying or weighting of the opposing tripod leg(s) is recommended in this situation.

If you are using an extra-long counterweight shaft with a CGEM 1100, you are best off having the counterweight shaft between the legs. This is the usual way the mount is shipped from Celestron.

In either position, the alignment pin is always on the same side as the counterweight shaft.
