I have an older Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (SCT) and I want to buy a solar filter for it. Will current solar filters fit?
Answer Older SCTs have lens caps and solar filters that simply slide over the outer diameter of the front cell containing the corrector plate.

N
ewer SCTs have lens caps and solar filters that bayonet into place over the front of the tube.  The front cell has to rivets to allow this mounting.  The lip of the cap/filter fits into the inside diameter of the front cell and then is turned to lock in place over the front of the tube.

The newer filters sold by Celestron can fit on a great many older SCTs of the same scope aperture.  The lip fits into the inside diameter of an older scope’s front cell.  If the fit is loose, it must be secured with Velcro or other means to prevent accidental exposure of optics and your eyes to damaging solar radiation.
