It depends on whether or not your mount has flashable motor control boards. These are MC 3.00 version number or higher.
If you don’t know or can’t plug in a working hand control into the mount, you can try a flashable hand control anyway. There are two possible outcomes when you plug in a new flashable hand control into a NexStar GPS of unknown vintage:
1) The screen is blank, the hand control does not work – the mount has old motor boards and the scope needs to have them replaced to work with flashable hand controls.
2) The hand control works. You have flashable motor boards and your mount can be used with flashable hand controls.
