Answer For either program, when your try to install it in Windows 8 you may see an error message like“1265156258_hcupdateinstall is not allowed to run”.

What this means is that you must install the program using Window 8’s compatibility feature.

Our example below is for HCupdate. (MCupdate will work the same for its Windows 8 installation.)

First, download the latest version (v.1.1.14 as of December 2012) of HCupdate from the Celestron website:

Next, save the file to the desktop. Right-click on it and choose “Extract all files” and save the HCupdateInstall_1_1_14.exe either on the desktop on in a new folder.

Now right-click on the HCupdateInstall_1_1_14.exe file itself. Choose “Troubleshoot compatibility” then “Troubleshoot program” then “Worked in previous versions of Windows” and then Windows 7, clicking next as needed.

Finally you should see “Test program”. Allow all security-access-control permissions that pop up and continue. Now the installation wizard will come up and HCupdate will install on your Windows 8 computer.

Reboot the computer before using the HCupdate program.
