How can I use the #44300 Handheld Digital Microscope with Windows 7?
Answer This microscope was discontinued by Celestron in 2008, before Windows 7 was introduced. So there are no official Windows 7 drivers for it.

However, drivers can be installed using the existing files from the Celestron website. Both Celestron Tech Support and customers have used the method below.

Download the zipped drivers here:

http://www.celestron.com/c3/images/files/downloads/1196883980_hdm213usb20pcca.zip

Then extract the files from the zipped file.

Go into the folder and click on the file named HDM213-USB20PCCam_v5.7.3.104.exe.

Allow all the permissions to install the file.

(NOTE: depending on your system, it may take some time for the installation. Please be patient and allow it to proceed until it is done.)

Restart your PC.

Open device manager on the control panel. Now plug in the microscope.

Windows 7 will show the pop-up balloon on the lower right of the monitor as it searches for the driver. Again, depending on your system, it may take some time to do this. Please be patient and allow it to proceed until it is done.

When it is done and indicates the webcam is plugged in, look at device manager. There will now be an entry under imaging devices, HDM213 DIGITAL IMAGE V1.1.

Now press the Windows key and the newly installed program AMCap will be highlighted. Open the program. You should see images from the microscope. (You may need to go to Devices on the menu bar to select the HDM213 DIGITAL IMAGE V1.1 from the list, especially if you have either used another camera or you have a webcam on your computer.)
