How is the Special Edition Scope different from the original NexStar 8i telescope?
There are several ways this telescope differs from the standard NexStar 8i. First and most obviously, this scope features a orange tube and a unique "Special Edition" logo. The NexStar 8i SE-SA NOW has our new SkyAlign alignment procedure and a flash upgradeable hand control. Standard accessories are slightly different, the NexStar 8i SE-SA does not ship with our NexRemote software or the RS-232 cable that is included with the standard NexStar 8i.
Is the NexStar 8i SE GPS Compatible?
Yes, this telescope is compatible with our CN-16 GPS Accessory.
Can I download firmware updates for my NexStar 8i SE-SA?
Since the NexStar 8i and 8i SE do not have PC ports, you must attach the Auxiliary Port Accessory item #93965 to download firmware updates. The Auxiliary Port Accessory has a PC port which allows the user to update motor control firmware downloaded from the internet. This kit includes the Auxiliary Port Accessory and Programming Cable (#93922). You can update the hand control software with the new flash upgradeable hand control that can connect to your computer using an optional RS-232 Cable (#93920). For more information click here.
