Got my NexStar 6 SE for Christmas in 2010. The package is great, I strongly advise you to buy some type of power supply to avoid excessive cost of AA batteries. I have purchased several accessories, recommend you get a few more eyepieces (7.5mm, 11mm, and 16mm work well). The f 6.3 Focal Reducer is essential and the t-adpater for a DSLR is are must-have items. The skill to align your scope is fairly simple, and you should be up and running after a daylight practice session. Set up is simple and quick, the tripod is durable and sturdy, and the controls are quite straight forward.
The f 6.3 Focal Reducer decreases the focal length from 1500mm to 945mm but it also increases the brightness in the eyepiece and in a DSLR greatly. I can not overstate the value of the focal reducer, I use it all of the time, unless I really want to bring Jupiter, Venus or Saturn at a star party. The t-adapter is great, and in conjunction with a remote control, snapping pictures of the Sun and Moon are very simple, provided that you use a Solar Filter!!
I have a great time with this telescope, and proudly display it with my local astronomy club when we have public viewing sessions along side much larger scopes; in fact, this small package really delivers sharp and clear images. Everything from viewing to photography is quite simple for the beginner. I would recommend this telescope to the beginner as well as to an experienced enthusiast. The GOTO capability is superb, in an evening you can sight in 10 to 20 objects in a short period of time, this helps to keep casual viewers enthused.
Great job, Celestron!!
