“WiFi Enabled” vs. “WiFi Compatible”

A WiFi “enabled” telescope refers to any computerized Celestron telescope that features built-in WiFi capability such as the NexStar Evolution, EvolutionHD, and AstroFi series telescope.  WiFi enabled telescopes do not require the SkyPortal WiFi module, work seamlessly with the FREE SkyPortal app for alignment and full telescope control, and work with the StarSense AutoAlign accessory for automatic telescope alignment in a matter of minutes!

SkyPortal App

Celestron’s newest planetarium app is an astronomy suite that redefines how you experience the night sky. Explore the Solar System, 120,000 stars, over 200 star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and dozens of asteroids, comets, and satellites—including the ISS. SkyPortal includes everything you need to experience the night sky in an exciting new way.

  • SkyPortal's intuitive Compass Mode enables you to hold your device up to the night sky and instantly identify stars, planets, galaxies, and more. Zoom in to view fainter objects not visible to the naked eye.
  • View a custom list of all the best celestial objects to view based on your time, date, and location.
  • Simulate the night sky up to 100 years in the past or future to plan your observing session. Look ahead to see when Jupiter's Great Red Spot will be visible. Or animate a lunar eclipse such as the "Blood Moon" so you know what to expect before you set up your telescope.
  • View hundreds of astronomical photographs and NASA spacecraft images. Or listen to more than four hours of audio narration to learn the history, mythology, and science of the heavens.
  • Night Vision Mode helps you preserve your eyesight after dark.
  • Monthly in-app and push notifications on all the best meteor showers, planetary conjunctions, eclipses, plus observing and imaging tips.

SkyPortal WiFi Module

Celestron's SkyPortal WiFi Module turns your smartphone or tablet into your own personal planetarium and observatory!

Simply plug the WiFi module into your computerized Celestron telescope’s Hand Control or AUX port and connect to its wireless signal with your device. Instantly, your device becomes a wireless hand controller for your telescope, guiding you through the alignment process and slewing to any celestial object with a simple tap.

As SkyPortal WiFi Module slews your telescope to an object, you can listen to hundreds of included audio descriptions on your device, which explain the history, mythology, and key features of the most popular celestial objects.

Select Tonight’s Best in the search menu and SkyPortal WiFi will display a list of the best objects to view based on your exact time and location. There’s no need to input GPS coordinates or set the time and date—SkyPortal WiFi takes this information directly from your device.

SkyPortal + StarSense Auto Align

Become an instant astronomer, even if you’ve never used a telescope before, with the one-of-a-kind StarSense AutoAlign. Just set up the accessory, push the Align button on the hand control, and StarSense begins capturing and comparing images of the night sky against its internal database. In about three minutes, it's gathered enough information to triangulate its position and align itself. Then, press the Sky Tour button: StarSense will automatically slew to all the best stars, planets, galaxies, and more currently visible in the night sky.

A small digital camera takes the place of your finderscope and attaches using one of two provided mounting brackets. The included StarSense hand control, with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects, takes the place of your NexStar hand control. The camera automatically captures a series of images of the sky. StarSense identifies the stars in the images, matching them to its database. Once a positive match is confirmed, StarSense calculates the coordinates of the center of the captured image, thereby determining exactly where the telescope is pointed.

Before StarSense, using a computerized telescope required a lengthy alignment process of finding and centering at least two bright stars in the telescope’s eyepiece. But StarSense automatically aligns itself with minimal user input. Just enter your time, date, and location and let StarSense do the rest!

For Microscopes:

Wifi enabled microscopes make it even easier to share the learning experience! Connect up to 3 devices and share the view. To operate, download the accompanying app to your mobile device and open up the microscopic world right from your smartphone or tablet.

Question: How can I reset my WiFi, if it being sluggish?

Answer: In order to reset the WiFi on your device, you will need to locate the reset pin on the device. Once you have located this button, you are going to need a paper clip, or something small enough to press the button down for a few seconds allowing the WiFi to reset.
