Total Lunar Eclipse - Jan 9, 2001

The total lunar eclipse which occurred on January 9th, 2001 is the first eclipse of the new millenium. Visible throughout Europe, the continent was predominantly covered by clouds. However, intermittent clear skies at key stages during the eclipse permitted for the sample image gallery below as viewed and photographed by amateur astronomer Anthony Ayiomamitis (anthony@perseus.gr) in Athens, Greece (Lat: 23.7167 deg, Long: 37.9667 deg).

All photographs were taken with a Celestron 14" SCT, Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer and a Celestron Variable Tele-Extender using prime focus astrophotography and a Canon A-1 camera with Fuji Superia Extra ASA 400 film. Guiding (Lunar Rate) was accomplished using a CG-11 Losmandy mount.
