We’re excited to announce the new Origin 678C camera upgrade for the Origin Intelligent Home Observatory. Starting October 15, Origin owners can upgrade their camera sensor with the self-install option, or beginning November 15, choose Celestron’s Premium Installation Service for expert installation and calibration.
Self-Install Option
Prefer to handle the upgrade yourself? The new Origin 678C camera is available now for self-installation, so you can upgrade immediately. Installing the camera and capturing new calibration frames is straightforward. We’ve created a step-by-step video tutorial to guide you through every stage. Premium Installation Service - Begins November 15
If you want a hands-off experience, our experts handle every detail when you choose our Premium Installation Service.

Request your Premium Installation Service by completing the form below.
Our Tech Support team will contact you to begin the RMA process and collect payment details. -
Receive your custom shipping box.
You won’t send us the entire Origin system for the upgrade, just the Origin tube. We'll send you a secure, purpose-built box (inside a remailer) to protect your tube during transport. Do not use your Origin's original packaging; this custom box is required for safe shipping. -
Ship your Origin tube to Celestron.
Use the provided return label to send your Origin tube back in the same remailer. -
We’ll install and calibrate your new camera.
Our technicians will professionally install the new camera, capture dark and flat frames, and ensure your system is ready for optimal performance. -
We ship your Origin back.
Your upgraded Origin and your original camera will be returned in the same custom box. Once your equipment is ready to ship back, you’ll be charged for the part, installation service, and shipping.
Timing
Turnaround time for installation and calibration at Celestron is typically 5–10 business days, depending on demand. Shipping times vary based on your chosen carrier and distance from our facility in Torrance, CA. While we’ll process upgrades as quickly as possible, Celestron cannot control or guarantee carrier delivery times.
Pricing
- Camera Upgrade (Part): $499
- Premium Installation Service: $160, including labor, handling, and the custom shipping box.
- Shipping: Costs vary by location—typically $50–$120 within the continental U.S. (higher for Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico). You’ll receive an exact quote when you place your order. We use our discounted carrier rates and charge only the true cost of shipping, with no added markup.
Total Cost: $709 - $779 and up + tax
