Celestron Introduces CGX, the Innovative NEW Mount Engineered for Backyard Observatories and Astroimaging
September 19, 2016
Torrance, CA (September 20, 2016) – Celestron, the world’s #1 telescope maker, is thrilled to unveil its newest mount and telescope series. Anticipating the needs of today’s amateur astronomer, CELESTRON’S ALL NEW CGX German equatorial mount redefines state of the art for backyard observatories and serious astroimaging. Designed and engineered in the USA, CGX is a culmination of years of engineering experience and advancements to our technologies. The newly designed CGX takes equatorial mounts to a higher level than ever before.
CGX was designed to better support telescopes for both visual and astroimaging pursuits. Key design elements include a lower profile equatorial head, which provides a more compact and stable setup with a sleeker look. We’ve also improved the motors and belt drive system for added torque and reduced backlash. CGX is remote operation friendly with internal cabling and “home” and “limit” sensors to allow control from indoors or across the country using Celestron’s latest software developed in conjunction with PlaneWave Instruments. In addition, we’ve made mechanical and ergonomic improvements throughout with smoother polar alignment adjustments, dual saddle plates for most standard CGE and CG-5 style dovetails, and intuitive carry handles to make the mount easier to setup and transport. The CGX is our new equatorial backbone to support a wide range of telescopes.
“Backyard observing and astroimaging is on the rise as more and more people are embracing the technological advancements that both mature and revitalize amateur astronomy.” said Dave Anderson, President and CEO of Celestron. “With the innovative design and competitive price of CGX, this rewarding hobby becomes accessible to anyone.”
The CGX Series includes the CGX equatorial mount, along with complete telescope packages featuring a variety of Celestron optical tubes. Each optical tube meets the needs and budget of both imagers and visual observers, including 8”, 9.25” and 11” Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tubes. CGX is also offered with our outstanding EdgeHD optics in 8”, 9.25” and 11” optical tube models.
But the star of the CGX line is the 11” RASA telescope. This complete setup provides not only the best optics and the best mount for astroimagers, but at f/2.2, RASA cuts imaging time more than half as compared with other popular imaging equipment- all at a very competitive price. Anything else this good costs twice as much.
All of Celestron’s new optics and accessories will be on display at Photokina 2016, Hall 2.1, Aisle C, Stand C-025.
