Why can’t I see the latitude index on my Advanced GT (CG-5) mount?
November 3, 2008
The latitude index mark is used set your latitude for polar alignment purposes.
Unfortunately, the Advanced GT (CG-5) mount’s index is a small raised arrow cast in the same metal and is the same color as the rest of the mount. It is difficult to see. Look carefully beneath the plastic housing for the RA motors for the arrow.
Fortunately, the latitude setting can be done in daylight or in a brightly lit room. It does not need to be done in the darkness of your observing session.
