Why does my telescope rings have a missing screw?
November 15, 2018
The equatorial (EQ) PowerSeeker, AstroMaster, and most Omni XLT models come equipped with tube rings to easily mount the telescope and balance the tube. One of the rings is equipped with a 1/4x20 screw and lock for piggybacking a camera on the scope. You may notice that the other ring has a threaded hole but no screw or lock. This is perfectly normal and your scope is not missing the screw. Both rings are threaded because all tube rings are manufactured in the same manner whether or not they are fitted with the screw and lock.
NOTE: The Omni XLT 127 SCT also comes on an Omni XLT EQ mount; however, the Optical tube assembly has a dovetail and not tube rings, so there is no 1/4x20 screw and lock ring.
